Patient Care Assistant Trainee

Position Overview
The Patient Care Assistant Trainee plays a vital role in delivering essential daily nursing care to designated patients under the close supervision of a licensed nurse. This position is crucial in ensuring patient safety and promoting the highest possible physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each individual, in alignment with all relevant laws, regulations, and Life Care standards.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Currently enrolled in a State-approved CNA program, with the ability to work for a single consecutive period of four (4) months. At the end of this period, the trainee must fulfill the certification requirements to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
- CPR certification is required upon hire or must be obtained during orientation, and it must remain current throughout employment.
- Exhibit patience, tact, a cheerful demeanor, and enthusiasm, especially when dealing with challenging patients.
- Ability to make independent decisions when necessary.
- Familiarity with nursing practices and procedures, as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing nursing functions in a post-acute care environment.
- Implement and interpret the goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the nursing department effectively.
- Demonstrate proficiency in all competency areas, including patient rights, safety, and sanitation.
- Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, vendors, and other stakeholders.
- Uphold confidentiality regarding all proprietary and confidential information.
- Understand and adhere to company policies, including those related to harassment and compliance.
- Exhibit integrity and professionalism by following Life Care's Code of Conduct and completing all mandatory compliance training.
- Assist in lifting, turning, moving, positioning, and transporting patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
- Support patients with personal hygiene, grooming, feeding, and toileting needs.
- Accurately document and chart patient care activities.
- Respond promptly to patient call lights.
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive attitude towards patients.
- Assist in the safe evacuation of patients when necessary.
- Demonstrate reliable and consistent attendance.
- Utilize reasoning skills and good judgment in all situations.
- Communicate effectively and collaborate within an interdisciplinary team.
- Perform physical tasks such as sitting, standing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, walking, reaching, and moving intermittently throughout the workday.
- Read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language proficiently.
- Lift and carry weights of up to 35 lbs., as well as push or pull similar weights.
