Position Overview:

The role involves welcoming patients and new registrants, generating necessary encounter documentation for new patients and walk-ins. Responsibilities include coding and finalizing all visits and services, managing co-payments and self-payments, and ensuring accurate billing information is verified. Additionally, the position entails scheduling patient appointments, overseeing provider clinic schedules, rescheduling missed appointments, and maintaining accurate patient demographics.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Foster and maintain positive relationships with patients, visitors, and colleagues. Interact in a professional and courteous manner, enhancing the public perception of BronxCare Health System.

2. Participate in Performance and Quality Improvement initiatives within the department, including data collection, analysis, and adherence to risk management protocols.

3. Generate encounter forms for new registrants and manage incoming calls professionally, directing inquiries to the appropriate personnel.

4. Collect payments, issue receipts, and reconcile cash transactions according to established financial protocols.

5. Verify patient registration and filing information, ensuring accuracy in managed care and insurance data, and update client demographics during each visit.

6. Create medical records for new clients, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed, including financial waivers and patient rights information.

7. Schedule appointments using an automated system, ensuring the correct appointment type is assigned and issue transportation vouchers as needed.

8. Ensure timely communication of consult reports to referring providers when applicable.

9. Exhibit proficiency in typing and basic computer operations, maintaining accurate electronic records for patient data.

10. Verify patient identification at each encounter to prevent duplicate records and ensure correct registration.

11. Provide courteous assistance to clients both in person and over the phone, addressing inquiries and taking accurate messages.

12. Maintain patient dignity and confidentiality at all times, demonstrating sensitivity to patient rights.

13. Remain flexible and cooperative with patients and staff, referring to supervisors as necessary, and greet patients promptly and appropriately.

14. Ensure the reception area is orderly and clean, and notify supervisors when supplies are low.

Qualifications:

- 0-2 years of experience in a medical receptionist role is required.

- 0-2 years of experience in patient billing is required.

- High school diploma or equivalent is necessary.

- Proficiency in computer systems, particularly in scheduling and medical records software is essential.
