Job Summary:

As a Patient Care Technician in our Critical Care department at Boston Medical Center, you will be a key member of the healthcare team. Under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice, you will provide direct clinical and support services to patients and their families.

Responsibilities:

Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions for patients in the Critical Care department and their families.
Obtain vital signs, bathe and feed patients, dress wounds, assist with hygiene, clean rooms and linens, and provide emotional support.
Perform a variety of environmental and inventory activities to ensure a safe, clean, and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the Critical Care department.

Requirements:

A high school diploma or GED certificate
Certification in basic life support (BLS), including CPR certification (must be current or obtained within 30 days of employment)
Ability to pass clinical competency testing
Physical ability to meet job responsibilities
Basic math and computer proficiency
One of the following: one year of previous experience as a Patient Care Technician in an acute hospital setting, currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed two cycles of clinical rotation, completed an approved Patient Care Technician training, completed an approved certified medical assistant training, one year of previous experience as an EMT or field medic (considered for adult ED positions only)
