Climate Risk and Opportunity Advisory Team

ERM's Climate Risk and Opportunity Advisory team is a global centre of excellence for climate advisory, providing innovative solutions to help clients understand and manage their sustainability challenges. We take a quantitative approach to climate risk assessment and opportunity identification, leveraging scenario-based exercises to determine how climate change may impact our clients' businesses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply quantitative methodologies to climate risk and opportunity assessments, including financial statement analysis, discounted cash flow modelling, cost-benefit analysis, and uncertainty analysis such as Monte Carlo simulations.
  • Engage directly with corporate clients to provide education on climate-related topics and present analytical work and defend quantitative results.
  • Build templated quantitative methodologies for climate financial risk estimation that can be leveraged on climate projects, with a focus on transition risk.
  • Incorporate a wide range of data sources into analyses, including corporate financial data, geospatial climate data, academic research, and industry-specific reports.
  • Support the delivery of client deliverables by working with team members across the business.
  • Support in leading more junior staff to drive project execution, upskill staff on the job, and lead by example.
  • Be willing to learn how to integrate financial models into no-code/low-code third-party digital platforms.
  • Communicate findings in a digestible way, including developing client curiosity regarding how they start their journey to transitioning to a low-carbon economy.
  • Support business development and sales-related activities, including helping senior leaders to draft client proposals and develop new offers.
  • Contribute to ERM's innovation and knowledge-sharing through involvement in thought leadership, internal newsletters, learning sessions, and other initiatives.
Requirements
  • Academic and/or professional experience in climate change/sustainability and finance/economics.
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of climate change, its impact on business models/strategy/company revenue, Capex, Opex, and decarbonization/net zero pathways.
  • Experience in leveraging climate transition scenarios (IEA, NGFS, or custom scenarios).
  • Motivational fit: produce high-quality client-ready deliverables, work independently, team player, demonstrates critical thinking, and is comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel with experience building financial models, conducting quantitative analysis, and data manipulation.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly relating to packaging complex outputs into a digestible format and communicating technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Familiarity with climate and/or financial audit and regulatory frameworks such as TCFD/CSRD/IFRS.
  • Familiarity with how transition risks can impact supply chains.
  • Experience (whether through study or a professional role) of working with climate-related risks and opportunities.
  • Graduate or postgraduate-level, with 1-2 years of relevant professional experience.
