Position Overview: We are in search of a Railcar Quality Assurance Specialist to conduct thorough final inspections of railcars, ensuring that all work performed meets industry standards and customer specifications. The role also involves collaborating with the production team on various quality initiatives. Key Responsibilities: Conduct visual, dimensional, and mechanical inspections of railcars and components at all stages of maintenance and qualification processes to evaluate the quality of work performed. Perform audits on the shop floor to verify compliance with U.S. and Canadian regulations, as well as internal standards and procedures. Document all identified nonconformities using reports, forms, and checklists to maintain accurate records. Keep an up-to-date inspection log for all railcars serviced, ensuring all documentation is complete prior to approval. Review shop floor documentation and final car files for completeness and adherence to compliance requirements. Coordinate with production to plan daily shipments, ensuring timely inspections and verifications. Ensure that railcars are properly secured, closed, and marked before release for interchange. Report any adverse or non-compliant findings to the supervisor and QA Manager, following up to ensure corrective actions are implemented. Engage in quality projects and Responsible Care initiatives to support the Company's objectives. Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. 3-5 years of relevant experience in railcar repair or manufacturing is preferred. In-depth knowledge of inspection procedures, tank car construction, and applicable regulations. Familiarity with NDT processes is advantageous. Proficiency in computer systems, including AS400, Outlook, and Microsoft Office applications. Strong reading and comprehension skills for technical documents and standards. General mechanical aptitude and ability to utilize railroad gauges and testing equipment for inspections. Vision correctable to 20/20 is necessary for inspection tasks. Working Environment: Work may be scheduled on off shifts. Physical demands include climbing, bending, and working in confined spaces. Ability to tolerate heights and inclement weather conditions is required. Personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, hard hats, and respirators must be worn.
