- Monday to Friday: Shift Rotation
- 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM or 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM
- 2 or 3 nights per month on call or as required
- Every 4th weekend
The Respiratory Therapist (RT) is responsible for delivering comprehensive respiratory care and other cardiopulmonary services to patients of all ages, from infants to adults. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, oxygen therapy, nebulization, postural drainage and percussion, ventilator management, CPAP/BIPAP, pulmonary rehabilitation, pulmonary function testing, EKGs, and other specialized diagnostic procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Collaboration
- Work closely with Physicians/Providers and Nursing staff.
- Provide guidance and collaborate with care providers to ensure optimal respiratory care.
- Exhibit strong communication skills and a cooperative work ethic.
- Prepare daily shift reports and maintain patient log sheets.
- Ensure accurate documentation in electronic medical records.
- Complete all billing for services in electronic medical records.
- Assist the director in gathering performance improvement data as needed.
- Demonstrate proficiency in operating respiratory care equipment.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment.
- Request repairs or replacements as necessary.
- Maintain an inventory of supplies required for department operations.
- Participate in training sessions on new equipment.
- Follow hospital infection control policies and cleaning protocols.
- Engage in a variety of professional skills and departmental activities.
- Tailor patient treatment based on diagnosis and individual needs.
- Utilize evaluations and treatment techniques according to established protocols.
- Manage emergent patient care situations effectively.
- Complete tasks in a timely manner to meet organizational and patient needs.
- Prioritize tasks, delegate responsibilities, and manage time efficiently.
- Administer all forms of respiratory treatments effectively.
- Conduct charge rounds and oversee equipment management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Participate in departmental meetings and required training sessions.
- Demonstrate proficiency in relevant equipment.
- Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Care program recognized by the American Medical Association.
- Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
- Current State of Minnesota Respiratory Therapist license.
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
