Position Summary:
We are in search of a highly qualified and empathetic Vascular Access Nurse (PICC RN) to become a vital part of our healthcare team in Central Texas. This role offers flexible PRN scheduling to fit your existing commitments. As a Vascular Access Nurse, you will be essential in providing specialized vascular access services, particularly focusing on Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC lines). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in vascular access techniques, infusion therapy, and patient education.

Key Duties:
  1. Vascular Access Techniques:
    • Carry out the insertion, maintenance, and removal of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC lines) with accuracy and adherence to established protocols.
    • Employ ultrasound guidance to ensure optimal catheter placement.
    • Evaluate and monitor the condition of vascular access sites, maintaining the highest standards of care.
  2. Infusion Therapy Management:
    • Administer and oversee intravenous (IV) therapies, medications, and fluids as directed by healthcare professionals.
    • Monitor patients during infusion therapy, identifying any adverse reactions and responding appropriately.
  3. Patient Education:
    • Inform patients and their families about the purpose, care, and maintenance of PICC lines and other vascular access devices.
    • Provide thorough instructions on infection prevention and self-care to ensure patient safety.
  4. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work alongside physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to create and implement tailored patient care plans.
    • Maintain effective communication with the healthcare team to ensure coordinated and seamless patient care.
  5. Documentation:
    • Accurately record all aspects of patient care, including assessments, interventions, and outcomes, in compliance with organizational policies and regulatory standards.
  6. Quality Improvement Initiatives:
    • Engage in quality improvement efforts to enhance patient outcomes and refine vascular access procedures.
Qualifications:
  1. Education and Licensure:
    • Current RN licensure in Texas.
    • Certification in Vascular Access (VA-BC or equivalent) is highly preferred.
  2. Experience:
    • At least 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse, specializing in vascular access and infusion therapy.
    • Proficient in ultrasound-guided PICC line insertion.
  3. Skills:
    • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking abilities.
    • Excellent communication and patient education skills.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
  4. Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is preferred.
