Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Clinician to join our Addiction Treatment Center team at The University of Vermont Medical Center. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence-based outpatient services to individuals with primary substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate new patients and diagnose substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders using the DSM and ICD.
  • Assess patients for appropriate level of care using ASAM criteria.
  • Provide direct patient care, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy.
  • Consult with primary care and other referring providers in the community.
  • Present cases at weekly clinical rounds.
  • Coordinate clinical services with other internal and external providers.
  • Formulate and update patient care plans, coordinating treatment as needed.
  • Continued care and discharge planning, including scheduling appointments with addiction, mental health, medical, and peer support providers.
  • Timely and accurate documentation.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in a behavioral health or related field required.
  • Active Drug and Alcohol Counselor License (LADC) in the State of Vermont required.
  • Active additional licensure as either a clinical social worker or clinical mental health counselor in the State of Vermont strongly preferred.
  • Training or certification may be required in a specific area, such as case management, group therapy, cognitive therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, or eye movement desensitization and reprocessing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 3 years direct clinical experience post-licensure providing individual, family, and group psychotherapy.
  • Experience with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders and complex diagnostic presentations.
  • Experience working with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with psychotropic medications and their role in treatment.
  • Training and experience in CBT/DBT approaches to mental health symptom reduction or alleviation.
  • Experience working with individuals at different stages of change and training in motivational interviewing.
  • Training in acute crisis intervention.
  • Training in suicide risk assessment and symptom reduction.
