The primary responsibility of the Neurosurgical Physician is to provide comprehensive and empathetic medical care to patients. Under the guidance of the Department Chairperson, the physician will exercise considerable autonomy in clinical decision-making, contributing significantly to the medical team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough patient examinations and order necessary diagnostic tests.
  • Develop diagnoses and implement appropriate therapeutic interventions while providing patient counseling.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals as required.
  • Ensure timely documentation in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Manage the treatment of surgical conditions affecting the brain, spine, and peripheral nerves.
  • Deliver compassionate and high-quality care to all patients.
  • Assist in the quality management initiatives within the neurosurgery division.
  • Supervise physician assistants and residents.
  • Provide clinical mentorship to house staff and other healthcare team members.
  • Guide less experienced medical staff as needed.
  • Adhere to HIPAA guidelines regarding patient privacy and security.
  • Support the establishment and maintenance of performance standards for medical professionals.
  • Commit to achieving facility performance indicator targets.
  • Maintain necessary credentials, licensure, and continuing medical education requirements.
  • Perform additional administrative and consultative duties as directed by the Department Chairperson.
  • Comply with all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Follow the departmental attendance policy.
  • Meet Employee Health requirements.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of a recognized residency program in neurosurgery.
  • Valid medical license to practice in New York State.
  • Possession of a valid DEA License.
  • Current Board Certification from The American Board of Neurological Surgery or eligibility for certification within five years of hire.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and bedside manner.
