Electric Transmission Routing and Siting Consultant

ERM is in search of a Consultant for Electric Transmission Routing and Siting to enhance our expanding power sector initiatives in the Great Lakes and Northeast regions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong track record as a consultant and task leader on new electric transmission projects, including evaluating current environmental conditions, forecasting impacts, analyzing alternatives, and drafting comprehensive reports. Exceptional technical writing and communication abilities are essential. Familiarity with transmission line routing/siting and permitting processes in the Midwest and/or Virginia is highly preferred. The preferred candidate will be based in MN, WI, IL, MI, OH, or western PA.

In the role of project manager, you will leverage your consulting and management expertise to foster the growth of ERM's business and client relationships in our Great Lakes and Northeast regions. You will also collaborate with ERM's national and global impact assessment teams, along with other technical specialists. This position presents an excellent opportunity for a mid- to senior-level professional aiming to elevate their career with a leading global environmental consultancy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead routing and siting investigations, perform analyses, and supervise the creation of reports for new electric transmission projects that involve intricate technical and regulatory challenges.
  • Manage multiple projects in alignment with each client's scope, budget, and schedule expectations while ensuring high-quality standards for deliverables.
  • Assign tasks to subject matter experts and mentor junior team members.
  • Draft written expert witness testimony for evidentiary hearings and provide oral testimony as necessary.
  • Engage in agency meetings and public forums, both in-person and virtually.
  • Develop technical proposals and participate in business development efforts with existing clients and prospective leads.
  • Establish strong collaborative relationships with fellow ERM team members.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Land Use Planning, Cultural Resources, or related fields; or an equivalent of 2 years' experience for each year of education.
  • 3+ years of consulting or industry experience collaborating with power clients on complex projects.
  • Prior experience in managing and supporting the routing and siting of electric transmission projects, particularly in the Midwest or Virginia.
  • Outstanding writing, communication, strategic/critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of technical proficiency and comprehensive knowledge of transmission line siting and construction best practices, with a solid understanding of key impact assessment issues (e.g., wetlands, protected species, visual resources, cultural resources).
  • Strong team-building and influencing capabilities, integrity, and the experience to effectively address client and business needs and challenges.
  • A positive attitude, collaborative spirit, and a commitment to the success of ERM as a global organization.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15 percent of the time.

For the Consultant, Routing and Siting position, we anticipate an annual base salary range of $74,251 – $83,651 USD. An employee's compensation within this range will be determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and organizational needs. Compensation may vary outside of this range based on the aforementioned factors.This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary performance bonus.
