Job Description

**Job Summary**

Viking Engineering and Development is seeking a highly skilled Automation Designer to join our team. As an Automation Designer, you will be responsible for innovating and optimizing wood fastening equipment through the design, documentation, and implementation of electrical systems and control logic.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design Electrical Systems: Develop and detail electrical designs for machine projects, including panel layouts, schematics, and component selection.
  • Release Documentation: Create and release components and systems engineering documentation, including BOMs, schematics, and component prints.
  • Support Teams: Provide training and problem-solving support to production, customer service, and sales teams.

Accountability:

  1. Electrical Systems Design: Ensure that electrical systems are designed and implemented to meet customer specifications and industry standards.
  2. Component Selection: Select and specify electrical components that meet customer requirements and industry standards.

Requirements:

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or technical degree in electronics, plus 2+ years of related experience.
  • CAD Software Experience: Proficient in using CAD software to develop and detail electrical designs, including SolidWorks and SolidWorks Electrical.
  • Electrical Knowledge: Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic control devices, including HMIs, Servos, and PLCs.
  • Industry Standards: Familiarity with industry standards, including Viking standards, customer specifications, UL, and NFPA.
  • Software Experience: Proficient in using Microsoft Office products and experience with B&R Automation Studio.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Disciplined problem-solving skills and ability to lead projects and direct the work of others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • SolidWorks Experience: Experience with SolidWorks and SolidWorks Electrical.
  • B&R Automation Studio Experience: Experience with B&R Automation Studio.

Work Environment:

This is a full-time exempt position based in Viking's main office location. The position requires standard business hours with occasional need for additional hours depending on project load.

Travel:

Ability to travel occasionally to customer sites.
