POSITION OVERVIEW: Under the guidance of the Special Education Director, this role is dedicated to delivering comprehensive case management for the caseloads of Special Education Teachers. Responsibilities encompass collaboration with Special Education Teachers for student evaluations, drafting Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), coordinating meetings, ensuring attendance, facilitating discussions, completing necessary paperwork, and managing records (including audit files and student management systems). The Special Education Program Coordinator will engage closely with instructional staff for students with disabilities, including speech and language pathologists, occupational and physical therapists, school psychologists, school counselors, and social workers, to assess eligibility, placement, and programming for special education services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Compile, maintain, and electronically file all reports, records, and meeting documentation, submitting required components to the district office within established timelines.
  • Develop, monitor, and report on educational goals; assess needs and design interventions based on research-driven best practices.
  • Provide clear documentation in designated platforms that support student progress towards their established goals.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and other relevant gatherings as necessary.
  • Collaborate with Special Education Teachers to select assessments and materials, establish a data collection system, and organize all relevant assessment data.
  • Draft IEPs based on assigned caseload.
  • Utilize data from school psychologists, special education teachers, and therapists to create initial, annual, and amendment IEPs in collaboration with the team lead, adhering to district preparation timelines.
  • Perform additional related tasks as assigned by the Special Education Director, Student Services Officer, Superintendent, or other designated district administrators.
  • Fulfill other supervisory duties as required by the Director of Special Education Services.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Undertake other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent, or other designated district administrators.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Possession of a valid South Carolina teaching certificate in special education; a master's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience in special education.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Familiarity with the policies, procedures, and activities of the school district relevant to the duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines.
  • Understanding of the records, forms, and reports that must be prepared and maintained.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current research in programs for students with disabilities, including procedures, legal issues, instruction, and assessment.
