Communication Specialist in Education

STUDENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
To empower students in enhancing their communication abilities essential for reaching their fullest academic and social potential.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct assessments for students with communication challenges.
- Diagnose and evaluate speech and language impairments.
- Create and execute tailored educational plans to address the specific needs of each student receiving therapeutic services.
- Design suitable service delivery models to accommodate student requirements.
- Refer students to additional professional and community resources as necessary.
- Collaborate with classroom educators and other school staff to ensure the integration of therapy progress into classroom activities.
- Provide information, support, and guidance to parents and families.
- Assist educators in identifying students with communication disorders.
- Maintain comprehensive records for students assessed and receiving services.
- Update administrators and educational team members on program developments and student achievements.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and uphold professional ethics and leadership.
- Coordinate services with other educational programs.
- Exhibit proficiency in both written and verbal communication.
- Comply with school system regulations, administrative procedures, local board policies, and applicable state and federal laws.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess a valid teaching certification or be able to obtain one within a specified timeframe upon hiring.
- Completion of a recognized program in Speech Therapy from an accredited institution.
While performing this job, the employee shall:
- Utilize strength to lift necessary items for job functions.
- Engage in sitting, standing, and walking for required durations.
- Communicate effectively and audibly.
- Utilize close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
- Effectively communicate in English, employing proper grammar and vocabulary. Other forms of communication may also be considered.
- Reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools and technology.
- Work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Exhibit professionalism and sound judgment in behavior, speech, and attire.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Adhere to all district policies and reasonable requests from authorities.
- Uphold confidentiality as mandated by applicable laws and district regulations regarding sensitive information.

SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Compensated according to the Certified Personnel Salary Schedule
EMPLOYEE GROUP: Certified
