POSITION: BILINGUAL ELEMENTARY EDUCATOR

REPORTS TO: SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION

GRADES TAUGHT: K - 5

OBJECTIVE: Bronx Global Learning Institute for Girls Charter School aims to deliver an outstanding educational experience for young girls through a dual language curriculum in a technology-enhanced setting. We focus on cultural heritage to cultivate leadership qualities, instill strong values, enhance self-esteem, and develop global leaders. Our dedicated and skilled educators provide a standards-aligned, research-based, technology-integrated curriculum that lays a solid foundation for lifelong learning.

Our intellectually stimulating curriculum, enriched with a cultural lens and an emphasis on successful female leaders, promotes excellence across cognitive, social, emotional, and ethical dimensions. A single-gender environment combined with a rigorous educational framework allows each student to detach from conventional social pressures, concentrating on personal growth and academic success.

Role Overview

At Bronx Global Learning Institute for Girls Charter School, Bilingual Educators embody and advocate for the school's mission, vision, goals, and policies within and beyond the school community. The Bilingual Educator is tasked with delivering an instructional program that addresses the unique needs of all students in a dual language context, in alignment with the school's mission and values set forth by its charter.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):

Instructional Design & Implementation

  • Design, prepare, and execute lessons for all students, including those with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and English Language Learner (ELL) classifications, in an inclusive dual language environment.
  • Utilize data to enhance curriculum and refine instructional strategies for improved student outcomes.
  • Engage in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level initiatives, dual language projects, and school-wide events.
  • Document all lesson plans, assignments, rubrics, and instructional materials.
  • Employ consistent school-wide practices and diverse individualized methods to engage all learners.
  • Incorporate technology tools for instruction, planning, and communication to ensure student engagement.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students regarding their progress towards meeting expectations and achieving their goals.
  • Create and maintain a responsive learning environment that fosters safety, creativity, and full student development.
  • Establish, model, practice, and reinforce age-appropriate behavioral expectations using school-approved procedures; develop and implement individual behavior management plans as necessary.
  • Implement classroom systems and routines that provide structure for students.
  • Ensure seamless operation of all classroom instructional activities.
  • Set personal and professional development goals in collaboration with school leadership.

Student Engagement & School Community

  • Communicate effectively and build strong relationships with students, families, colleagues, and school administrators.
  • Support the dual language initiative by bridging English and Spanish instruction, creating dual language projects, and assisting all students as language learners.
  • Facilitate the development, maintenance, and assessment of student portfolios.
  • Develop and utilize rubrics for evaluating student work and performances.
  • Oversee and assist with student arrival and dismissal procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with all members of the school community, modeling citizenship, teamwork, and mutual support.

Qualifications

  • Alignment with the core values and mission of BGLIG.
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree in Education preferred.
  • NYS teaching certification mandatory.
  • Experience in a high-performing charter or district school preferred but not essential.
  • Strong classroom management capabilities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Common Core standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster effective collaborative relationships with a diverse staff.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Spanish preferred.
  • Proficient in technology use, including various G Suite educational tools.
