Position Overview

AECOM is looking for a seasoned Senior Environmental Planner specializing in Rail Infrastructure to enhance our Northern California operations. The selected candidate will take the lead on environmental clearance processes and related tasks for heavy rail and transit/light rail initiatives. This role involves collaboration with senior project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams, as well as engagement with local, regional, state, and federal agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with AECOM's interdisciplinary teams to ensure the integration of environmental and social factors into project planning and design.
  • Provide oversight and accountability for project deliverables, ensuring adherence to scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining quality standards.
  • Mentor and lead junior personnel in their professional development.
  • Conduct research, writing, and impact analysis for a variety of CEQA and NEPA documentation.
  • Oversee subconsultant and technical staff management.
  • Handle financial management and progress reporting for ongoing tasks.
  • Support business development initiatives, including proposal writing.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Planning or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in managing CEQA and NEPA documentation and technical studies for rail projects or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with California's regulatory permitting landscape, including interactions with various state and federal agencies.
  • A valid Driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Environmental Planning, Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, or a related field.
  • 10-15+ years of experience in CEQA/NEPA documentation for rail infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with federal agencies in NEPA documentation processes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective project management and team collaboration.
  • Proven ability to provide strategic guidance on CEQA and NEPA processes and permitting requirements.
  • Experience with other state and federal environmental regulations and consultation requirements.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Experience in marketing and business development related to new projects.
