Position Title: Radiation Therapy Specialist

Position Summary: Aldevra is actively seeking a skilled Radiation Therapy Specialist responsible for delivering therapeutic doses of ionizing radiation. This role involves utilizing advanced linear accelerators, such as Varian treatment units, and managing the Treatment Management System (TMS) like ARIA, alongside simulating patients in CT-SIM scanners, all in accordance with the directives of radiation oncologists. While training will be provided, the ideal candidate should resonate with our core values of SOAR (Strong Integrity and Ethics, Outstanding Teamwork, Accountability-Driven, and Relentless Pursuit of Quality).

This position is contingent upon contract award.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conducts thorough reviews and confirmations of patient treatment plans and machine parameters as part of a quality assurance process prior to the initial treatment and during daily checks.
  • Executes quality assurance warm-up tests on treatment units and simulators, promptly reporting any issues to the supervisor or physicist.
  • Accurately positions patients on the treatment table following established protocols.
  • Captures necessary electronic portal images throughout the treatment course in accordance with departmental standards, including MV or kV portal images and kV CBCT.
  • Identifies emergency patient conditions and provides first aid or basic life support as necessary.
  • Maintains electronic records for patient setups and treatments utilizing ARIA and the Computerized Patient Record System.
  • Collaborates continuously with radiation oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists, therapy colleagues, nursing staff, social workers, the Cancer Navigation Team, and patients' families to ensure optimal treatment pathways for patients.

Requirements

Security Requirements: (if applicable)
  • Must be able to obtain VA PIV badge.
  • Adhere to the Privacy Act of 1974.
  • Compliance with other applicable laws, Federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHA policy is required.
This position requires passing an extensive background check.

Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience as a Radiation Therapy Specialist.
  • Completion of a program in therapeutic radiologic technology, evidenced by a certificate or an associate's or higher degree accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology or other recognized accrediting bodies.
  • Compliance with credentialing standards in 42 C.F.R. Part 75.
  • Certification in therapeutic radiologic technology by the ARRT in Radiation Therapy (ARRT (T)).
  • BLS certification for Healthcare Providers.
  • Knowledge in specialized areas of therapeutic radiologic technology, including treatment planning, simulation, mold room, medical dosimetry, total body irradiation, and brachytherapy procedures.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, with some bending and moderate lifting required.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Windows operating systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate data entry skills.
  • Customer-focused and team-oriented work ethic.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining quality.
