About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Therapeutic Medical Physicist to join our team at Aldevra. As a key member of our radiation oncology department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and advancing our mission to provide exceptional medical services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct Patient Care (80%):
    • Provide expert guidance as a Certified Therapeutic Medical Physicist (CTMP), overseeing all physics and dosimetry operations for VA radiation oncology services.
    • Ensure the quality management of radiation oncology services, developing and implementing QMP policies, conducting quarterly QA reports, and maintaining current licenses for radioactive sources and software.
    • Manage equipment-related quality assurance, provide shielding surveys, develop and implement new procedures, and report adverse events and facility profile data to the National Health Physics Program (NHPP).
  • Medical Physics Support:
    • Optimize and evaluate radiation treatment plans, ensuring precise radiation dose delivery while maintaining patient and staff safety.
    • Perform calculations, conduct systematic chart reviews, and maintain accurate records of equipment specifications and maintenance schedules.
    • Manage dosimetry, calibrate treatment equipment, oversee new procedures, and provide comprehensive network and computer support.
    • Assist with brachytherapy procedures and maintain detailed documentation of all activities related to radiation therapy equipment and procedures.
  • Administrative (20%):
    • Attend service staff meetings and ensure timely reporting of patient safety incidents, adverse events, and incidents involving radioactive material, following VA and NHPP procedures.
    • All other duties as assigned.
    Requirements
    • Must be Board Certified in Medical Physics or Therapeutic Medical Physics by the ABR or certified by the American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP) in Radiation Oncology Physics and maintain licensure with the Board of Licensure for Professional Medical Physicists, if applicable.
    • All qualifications are subject to review by the VA PSHCS Chief of Staff and approval by the VA PSHCS Facility Director.
    • Shall meet the following education, certification, and qualification standards:
    • Master of Doctorate Degree in Medical Physics or related field.
    • Hold current Board Certification in Therapeutic Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology.
    • Knowledge and experience in professional care theories, principles, practices, and procedures to serve radiation oncology patient population.
    • Medical linear accelerator calibration and Quality Assurance, in accordance with AAPM Task Group 51 and 142 reports, among others.
    • Treatment planning system commissioning and Quality Assurance.
    • Quality Assurance of IMRT, IGRT, and VMAT.
    • Quality Assurance of CT machines.
    • Permanent implant prostate brachytherapy, including treatment planning, source assay, and source handling.
    • The candidate must also be approved for the position by the VA National Health Physics Program.
    • Proficient in Microsoft and Adobe Acrobat applications.
    • Military experience or background is preferred.
    • Excellent verbal communication skills and telephone manner.
    • Excellent and accurate written communication.
    • Excellent attention to detail; accurate data entry.
    • Customer Focused and team-oriented work ethic.
    • Able to multi-task efficiently and accurately, focusing on quality.
