About the Role
We are seeking a visionary Director of Scientific Innovation to lead our scientific strategy and execution of our innovative carbon removal technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement methods for field-deployed monitoring systems to ensure accurate data collection.
- Design and conduct lab and field experiments to evaluate CO2 removal and greenhouse gas attenuation, driving scientific and technological advancements.
- Establish protocols for the company's CO2 removal approach, ensuring compliance with technical standards and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Lead and manage the R&D team to drive scientific and technological innovations, fostering a collaborative environment and providing scientific direction and feedback.
- Oversee scientific projects to ensure progress towards carbon removal milestones, analyzing and interpreting empirical and model results for strategic decision-making.
- Collaborate with research and engineering teams to integrate geochemical models into the technology platform, ensuring seamless integration and data capture.
- Coordinate with operations to ensure data reporting and system adoption, defining and complying with technical standards and SOPs.
Requirements and Qualifications
- PhD in geochemistry, biogeochemistry, or a related field, with extensive hands-on experience in both laboratory and field research.
- Proven leadership experience in managing and developing a research team, with strong expertise in mineral kinetics, inorganic chemistry, and biogeochemistry.
- At least five years of laboratory research experience, with proficiency in data management and coding, and experience with hydrological and oceanographic modeling techniques and software.
- Innovative, adaptable, and focused on execution within a startup environment, with a deep commitment to addressing climate change.
- Ability to utilize Excel spreadsheets, create excel trackers, and be able to use Word and Powerpoint for reporting/presentations via teams or in person.
