ENTRY LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, possessing a current State license (RN preferred) (LPN acceptable), with a minimum of two years of experience in chemical dependency treatment. Experience with both adults and adolescents is preferred.
- Ability to remain seated for periods ranging from 30 minutes to 4 hours during an 8-hour shift.
- Visual acuity of 20/40 corrected in each eye and auditory capability (hearing aids are acceptable).
- Competence in administering First Aid and CPR.
- Capable of walking approximately 1 mile within the facility during an 8-hour shift.
- Must possess emotional and physical resilience to operate effectively in high-stress situations.
- If in recovery, must demonstrate two (2) years of continuous abstinence.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Deliver comprehensive nursing services. Adhere to Nursing policies and procedures related to detoxification and other Nursing Services. Execute physician's orders and protocols as instructed. Engage in Performance Improvement and Infection Control initiatives as necessary.
Understand and comply with the general provisions of 42 CFR Part 2, "Confidentiality of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Patient Records," and 45 CFR "Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act." This role entails unrestricted access to patient-identifying and health information.
KEY FUNCTIONS:
- Conduct and document a thorough and accurate Nursing Assessment within twenty-four (24) hours of patient admission.
- Evaluate withdrawal severity and intervene according to physician policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Establish and maintain a supportive relationship with patients and their families.
- Monitor vital signs (Blood Pressure, Pulse, Respirations) and administer medications as prescribed by the physician.
- Perform venipuncture on patients without causing harm.
- Administer oral medications, intramuscular injections, and intravenous medications, including IV fluids.
- Transcribe physician orders, manage medication orders, and ensure accountability for controlled substances.
- Conduct routine monitoring and testing, such as blood glucose monitoring, audiometric screening, and EKGs.
- Provide health and medical education to patients and their families as appropriate.
- Participate in timely and accurate documentation of patient records concerning nursing assessments, treatment planning, interventions, patient responses, and progress in treatment, including physician orders.
- Engage in Clinical Team Staffing and staff meetings as appropriate.
- Conduct regular performance improvement monitoring and evaluation activities and serve on Task Groups as needed.
- Adhere to the Board of Nursing Standards of Practice.
- Maintain a safe and conducive environment for well-being, offering health education and counseling to patients and staff.
- Exhibit a professional demeanor and appearance, ensuring coherent and articulate communication, maintaining alertness, and being responsive to patients' needs and concerns.
- Regular attendance is required.
- Collaborate effectively with co-workers, managers, clients, and prospective clients.
- Maintain a constant state of alertness to perform job duties safely.
