Program Overview
The Rising Strong initiative supports families at risk of separation due to parental substance misuse by offering secure housing, treatment for substance misuse, case management, and comprehensive support services. Our objective is to mitigate trauma in children, lower foster care placements, and eliminate barriers hindering parental success in recovery. We accompany and assist vulnerable families in rewriting their narratives.
Role Summary
This role exemplifies proper health and safety standards for all individuals and families while facilitating essential health and sanitation tasks during overnight hours. The position involves coaching, encouraging, and empowering families in their reunification and recovery journeys, particularly during the night for families residing at Rising Strong.
Key Responsibilities
To excel in this role, the individual must effectively carry out the essential duties/responsibilities outlined below. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
- Allocate 40% of time to maintain healthy shelter operations overnight, which includes:
- Completing assigned health and sanitation tasks nightly throughout the facility.
- Informing leadership when supplies are low or additional supplies are required.
- Assisting residents with urgent care needs as necessary.
- Monitoring the facility for safety and sobriety risks, including:
- Conducting visual bed checks twice nightly with another FSC to ensure families are not co-sleeping and that all dependents are in their designated rooms.
- Performing walk-throughs of common areas to ensure safety is upheld during nighttime hours.
- Maintaining family records, Shift Notes, and completing necessary documentation, including:
- Documenting bed checks and notable events in Shift Notes each night.
- Recording the head count of families residing in the building in Shift Notes each night.
- Conducting urinalysis testing as requested by leadership.
- Assisting residents with problem-solving and conflict resolution to establish successful routines for life beyond the program.
- Coaching families on policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Rising Strong rules and safe practices.
- Executing shift responsibilities to guarantee ongoing safety, cleanliness, and smooth facility operations, including:
- Training and implementing Emergency Evacuation protocols as per Rising Strong procedures.
- Intervening in emotionally charged situations to de-escalate conflicts.
- Monitoring and intervening when families are isolating from the community.
- Maintaining vigilance for safety threats to all family members and intervening promptly to mitigate risks.
- Ensuring no families exit the facility without proper authorization from designated staff.
- Reporting any suspicions of substance use to the appropriate staff immediately.
- Assisting in compassionate responses to relapses, prioritizing safety for all involved.
- Keeping supply areas hygienic and organized.
- Leading activities for parents and children as needed.
- Transporting families as assigned.
- Answering phone calls and taking messages.
- Providing leadership and appropriate responses in emergencies.
- Appearing in court to testify regarding families' involvement in the program when subpoenaed.
- Utilizing administrative, fiscal, physical, and technical safeguards to protect client health information per HIPAA regulations.
- Accurately recording time worked according to agency standards.
- Employing various communication methods (email, text, phone, etc.) and database practices as directed by supervisors.
- As a mandated reporter, following agency procedures to report suspicions or confirmations of abuse or neglect.
- Collaborating as a team member to achieve productivity outcome measures.
- Adhering to the principles of Catholic Social Teaching and Catholic Doctrine.
- Performing related functions to support the mission and core values of Catholic Charities.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Education/Experience: An associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Experience working with children is mandatory. A minimum of two years' experience in social services is preferred, particularly in recovery, child welfare, homelessness, residential settings, or mental health.
- Certificates/Licenses: Candidates must:
- Pass a background check relevant to the position.
- Hold a valid Washington State Driver's License.
- Complete a respirator medical evaluation questionnaire, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as mandated by WA Industrial Safety & Act standards.
