Key Responsibilities

The Structural Engineer II is responsible for conducting structural evaluations of low complexity on existing communication structures, which may include guyed towers, self-supporting towers, monopoles, mounts, rigging plans, rooftops, platform designs, site compounds, and their foundations. This role involves preparing detailed written reports that outline structural capacity and recommendations for necessary modifications to enhance capacity. The Structural Engineer II will also provide support to senior engineers in analyzing more complex structures and in designing modifications to existing telecommunications infrastructure. Additionally, they will assist in reviewing field inspections on simpler towers and collaborate with experienced engineers to suggest remediation strategies for less complicated issues.

Essential Duties:

  • Evaluate requests for engineering services to ensure sufficient information is available for completion.
  • Assess tower structures and foundations for current, proposed, and reserved tenant configurations.
  • Review mount analyses, rigging plans, construction drawings, and pre/post inspection reports.
  • Conduct regular site visits to verify the proper execution of engineering designs.
  • Utilize existing processes to initiate analysis projects accurately.
  • Perform analyses on low complexity projects using hand calculations, structural analysis software, and other accepted methodologies.
  • Assist in the design of modifications for telecommunications infrastructure, including reinforcements, extensions, and foundations.
  • Collaborate with design staff to develop modification drawings.
  • Ensure precise project status reporting to support accurate customer and sales reporting.
  • Comply with relevant safety and OSHA regulations.
  • Generate necessary engineering reports.
  • Support additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering or a related discipline is required.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI) certification is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in the telecommunications sector.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the engineering field.
  • 3+ years of proficiency with AutoCAD is mandatory.
  • Prior experience with 2D and 3D design is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of structural analysis software and tower structures/design methods is essential.
  • Familiarity with proper steel detailing is required.
  • Understanding of structural components and design methodologies is necessary.
  • Strong customer service orientation, responding promptly to client needs and seeking feedback for improvement.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with various functional groups and employees at different levels within the MasTec Network Solutions organization.
  • Capability to develop and produce accurate structural modification drawings with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in software applications, including AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate clearly and persuasively in various situations.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, with effective time management and goal-setting abilities.
  • Dependable and responsive to management direction, maintaining commitments.
  • Willingness to travel as required for job-related functions.
