Position Overview
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is essential in providing comprehensive care to patients visiting our facilities. This role involves a variety of responsibilities, including patient interaction, specimen collection, and communication of test results.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts patient interviews to gather and document the history of present illness (HPI), medication history, and allergy information.
- Measures vital signs and performs standard tests in accordance with clinic protocols.
- Coordinates and executes follow-up procedures as instructed by healthcare providers, which may include onsite testing, specimen collection, and wound management.
- Assists healthcare providers with procedures such as applying sutures or splints.
- Maintains effective communication with patients regarding their care, including timely notifications of test and lab results. Utilizes cultural competency and active listening to explain practice policies and procedures clearly.
- Documents patient care accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) system, ensuring all necessary forms and documentation are completed.
- Collects and prepares specimens for transport to external laboratories as required.
- Monitors and manages consumable supplies and medications to ensure smooth clinical operations.
- Fosters a safe, clean, and secure clinical environment by adhering to standard precautions and infection control principles.
Qualifications
Required:
- Current Medical Assistant certification from an accredited organization, such as:
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) from the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from the American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Ability to lift supplies and equipment regularly and actively navigate the clinical area throughout the workday.
Preferred:
- Previous experience in a clinical environment.
