Job Summary

CommonSpirit Health is seeking a skilled Environmental Services Technician to join our team. As an Environmental Services Technician, you will play a critical role in maintaining a clean and safe environment for our patients, visitors, and staff.

Responsibilities
  • Complete daily occupied and discharge/transfer cleaning and disinfection of patient care areas, equipment, and other common areas.
  • Perform duties while demonstrating a working knowledge of healthcare cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements.
  • Adhere to all organization safety, risk management, and infection control guidelines and standards while promoting a culture of safety.
  • Actively participate in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including initiatives to improve patient experience and cleanliness metrics.
  • Maintain cleaning cart(s), supplies, and equipment, as outlined in the Standard Work cart set up.
  • Remove waste and transport to the appropriate disposal area while identifying proper waste stream handling.
  • Follow all infection prevention practices, including proper cleaning and disinfection protocols, hand hygiene, standard and isolation precautions, and proper donning and doffing of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Recognize and adhere to patient privacy requirements (HIPAA).
  • Practice critical thinking skills and demonstrate personal accountability.
  • Identify and utilize appropriate resources to ensure identified problems or concerns are followed through and resolved.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of facility safety requirements and the ability to operate and properly maintain all EVS tools and equipment needed to clean and disinfect the environment.
  • May be asked to perform tasks according to the various facility needs, including conference room set ups, cleaning of stairwells and elevators, and hanging of cubicle curtains.
  • May be asked to mentor new Environmental Services Technician employees.
  • Ability to collaborate with others as part of the patient care team.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED preferred. Previous healthcare experience preferred.
  • Can distinguish the differences between levels of disinfection and perform low and intermediate level disinfection.
  • Ability to explain orally or in writing the differences between levels of disinfection and perform intermediate level disinfection in areas where required.
  • Ability to operate necessary equipment/machines.
  • Effectively uses computers and mobile devices.
  • Respectfully listens to viewpoints and ideas of others.
  • Communicates orally or in writing openly and candidly, creates an environment where co-workers and team members reciprocate in kind.
  • Ability to work without close supervision.
