ROLE SUMMARY:

The primary responsibility of this role is to support the professional team at the branch by assisting library users in finding materials and information.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the full-time personnel at the library's reference desks by addressing reference inquiries and directing complex questions to the appropriate staff.
  • Guide patrons in utilizing public computers to navigate the library catalog, manage circulation accounts, and access the Internet and various databases.
  • Contribute to different areas of the library as needed, including programming for children, assisting at the circulation desk, or providing support at other reference desks.
  • Perform assigned shelf-reading tasks to maintain organization within the library.
  • Assist with the processing of books and audiovisual materials or undertake other duties as required.
  • Participate in reference training and ongoing educational opportunities as they become available.
  • Regularly familiarize oneself with the library's databases, online resources, and reference book collection to enhance knowledge of available information resources.

Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is required, along with 48 credit hours of college coursework; transcripts must be provided.
  • Previous experience in customer service is preferred.
  • Proficiency in typing and keyboarding is necessary.
  • Computer skills, particularly in Internet navigation and database searching, are essential.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with both staff and the public are important.
  • Physical ability to bend, stoop, reach, and lift library materials weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • This position requires availability for evening and weekend shifts.

COMPENSATION: Part-Time $15.00 per hour, 24 hours per week.
