JOB SUMMARY:

The primary role of the Library Support Specialist is to assist the professional team at the branch in delivering exceptional service to library patrons by helping them find materials and information.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the full-time staff at the library's reference desks.
  • Provide accurate responses to reference inquiries, directing complex questions to the full-time staff.
  • Guide patrons in utilizing public computers to navigate the catalog, manage circulation accounts, and access the Internet and databases.
  • Assist in various library functions as needed, including organizing programs for children, supporting the circulation desk, and providing help at other reference desks.
  • Carry out assigned shelf-reading tasks to maintain order on the shelves.
  • Participate in the processing of books and audiovisual materials or other designated duties.
  • Engage in ongoing reference training and educational opportunities as they arise.
  • Regularly familiarize oneself with the library's databases, online resources, and reference collections to ensure comprehensive knowledge of available information.

Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is required, along with 48 credit hours of college coursework; transcripts must be provided.
  • Experience working with children in group settings is preferred.
  • Proficient typing and keyboarding skills are necessary.
  • Strong computer skills, including Internet usage and database searching.
  • Excellent communication abilities and a friendly demeanor when interacting with staff and the public.
  • Physical capability to bend, stoop, reach, and lift library materials weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Availability for evening and weekend shifts is required.

SALARY: Part-Time $15.00 per hour, 24 hours per week.
