Role of the Senior Environmental Economist: We are in search of a proficient, bilingual (Spanish and English) environmental economist to enhance our analytical capabilities across the organization. This role involves collaborating closely with the Lead Economist, overseeing research design, performing data analysis, managing research teams, and supporting both staff and contracted analysts in their technical endeavors. The successful candidate will be proactive and will engage with colleagues globally, contributing to a vibrant international environmental NGO focused on innovative solutions to pressing environmental issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research: Engage in research design and conduct high-quality environmental economics studies on diverse topics across the globe.
  • Project Management: Lead 1-3 significant studies annually, encompassing research design, analysis, writing, and presenting findings to stakeholders.
  • Support Projects: Assist in various research projects, providing support in analysis, writing, and other necessary tasks.
  • Technical Collaboration: Partner with the Lead Economist to enhance the quality of research and communication across the organization.
  • Communication: Ensure the effective presentation of research findings in various formats, including peer-reviewed publications and organizational reports.
  • Publications: Oversee the submission of articles for publication in academic journals.
  • Teaching: Actively participate as an engaging instructor in training programs.
  • Proposal Development: Identify new opportunities and assist in the creation of proposals and grant applications.
  • Continuous Learning: Independently explore new analytical themes and apply them to ongoing research projects.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in environmental economics or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience applying economic principles to environmental and developmental challenges.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish; proficiency in Portuguese is advantageous.
  • Extensive international experience with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Expertise in areas such as natural capital valuation, cost-benefit analysis, and economic impact analysis.
  • Proven track record in writing successful technical proposals.
  • Effective public speaking skills for diverse audiences.
  • Passion for learning and tackling new analytical challenges.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
