Job Title: Senior Trade Economist

About the Role

The Trade and Regional Integration Unit (ETIRI) is seeking a Senior Trade Economist to contribute to analytical and technical assistance engagements, as well as lending operations on trade in services policy issues in low- and middle-income countries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and/or contribute to analytical studies on trade in services and digital trade policy trends and their impact on development.
  • Develop new knowledge products and instruments that can be mainstreamed into country work, including toolkits for analytical work and country-wide policies.
  • Support regions by participating in policy dialogue on trade in services and digital trade with client countries and in lending projects initiated by country teams.
  • Prepare briefs on trade in services and digital trade matters for Senior WBG management.
  • Lead and/or participate in knowledge sharing, learning activities, and internal and external communication of the Global Trade and Regional Integration Unit.
Requirements
  • Master's or Advanced Degree in economics, with at least 8 years of relevant professional experience on trade in services and digital trade issues.
  • Strong analytical skills and proven track record to conduct independent policy-relevant research, translate theory into practical applications, and adapt professional knowledge and technical skills to analyze, diagnose, and propose solutions to trade policy issues.
  • Strong command of general and partial equilibrium modelling, and key data sets used in trade in services/digital trade quantitative analytical work.
  • Excellent knowledge of institutions and rules regulating international trade.
  • Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of the concepts, principles, and practices governing trade diagnostics and tools, and regional integration policies.
