Position Overview: As a Line Technician within the Kinetic construction and engineering division, your responsibilities will include the installation, repair, and maintenance of poles, cables, and conduits. You will be tasked with installing both aerial and buried cables along with the necessary hardware to complete projects, as well as running fiber optic and copper cables in various infrastructures, including manholes.

In this role, you will prioritize crew safety by directing procedures related to road and manhole safety. Attendance at safety meetings, inventory management, DOT vehicle inspections, operation of heavy machinery, and routine maintenance will also be part of your duties. This position may require working on weekends, holidays, standby and unscheduled hours, and overtime, with travel exceeding 50% being a possibility. This is a safety-sensitive role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, repair, and maintain utility poles.
  • Utilize electronic testing equipment to assess signal strength.
  • Interpret staking sheets and blueprints accurately.
  • Install aerial cables (both fiber and copper) and conduct inspections to analyze and document test results.
  • Set up customer services by installing, connecting, testing, or adjusting equipment as necessary.
  • Access specific locations to string lines or install terminal boxes and auxiliary equipment using bucket trucks or by climbing poles.
  • Pull lines to the appropriate tension using jacks, hoists, and other necessary equipment.
  • Lay underground cables directly in trenches or through conduits.
  • Excavate trenches for underground wires or cables.
  • Perform all work in compliance with industry standards and RUS regulations.
  • Maintain detailed engineering field notes and interpret telecom facilities in records and maps.
  • Engage in engineering, permitting, and construction processes as required.
  • Identify and rectify route issues, including hand hole cleanup and sign placement.
  • Fill and tamp holes using cement and other materials.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in operating various construction equipment for installations, including digger derricks and bucket trucks.
  • Certification in pole climbing.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver weights up to 75 pounds.
  • Capability to work in diverse weather conditions year-round.
  • Experience working in confined spaces and at heights.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call schedule and work flexible hours as needed.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to obtain a CDL post-hire.
  • Exceptional time management skills and attention to detail for accurate paperwork completion.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of OSHA 10 Hour Safety Course and Buck Squeeze (Pole Climbing Certifications).
  • Experience operating various construction equipment.

Equipment Utilized: Test Equipment, Ladders, Climbing Hooks, Hand and Power Tools, Digger Derrick, and other heavy-duty equipment.

Types of Driver's License Required: Driver's License, ability to obtain CDL License.
