Head Cashier

The Head Cashier is a key member of the retail operations team at Westlake Ace Hardware, responsible for ensuring seamless customer transactions and providing exceptional customer service. This role requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

• Customer Service
  • Provide exceptional customer service, ensuring a positive shopping experience for all customers.
  • Greet customers warmly and thank them by name, whenever possible.
  • Project a friendly, outgoing demeanor and work well with customers and colleagues.
  • Ensure excellent customer service from team members, including prompt and courteous responses to customer inquiries.
• Register Operations
  • Process transactions accurately and efficiently, adhering to all cash handling procedures.
  • Balance the register drawer and reconcile any discrepancies.
  • Assist with register and computer issues, including downloads, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
• Cash Room Operations
  • Verify cashier-balancing procedures are followed in the absence of the Assistant Manager-Operations.
  • Assist with deposit procedures and policies, including preparing deposit, long/short recap, and sales audits.
  • Verify weekend vault counts and randomly verify vault contents.
• Office Operations
  • Provide assistance to the Assistant Manager-Operations with office duties, including receiving, invoices, purchase orders, and inventory adjustments.
• Audit
  • Assist with the quarterly audit checklist, as needed.
  • Observe cashiers for proper phone etiquette, greeting customers, and handling returns correctly.
• Front End Appearance and Upkeep
  • Maintain a clean and organized front end, including facing and dusting shelves.
  • Ensure impulse counters are stocked and faced, and rotate fresh merchandise as seasons change.
  • Assist with decorating the front end, as directed by the Store Support Center program.
  • Call for cart pickups when necessary.
• Leadership
  • Communicate merchandising, cost control, and sales ideas to the General Manager for follow-up.
  • Participate in store and cashier meetings.
  • Assist with training and development of new cashiers.
  • Work with the Assistant Manager-Operations to prepare for advancement opportunities.
