Job Summary

The Head Cashier is a key member of our retail team, responsible for providing exceptional customer service and ensuring seamless transactions at our checkout counters. As a Head Cashier, you will be the face of our company, interacting with customers and colleagues alike, and embodying our Core Values of Service, Passion, Respect, Integrity, Teamwork, and Excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Customer Service
    • Project a positive and welcoming demeanor, ensuring customers feel valued and appreciated.
    • Greet customers entering and throughout the store, thanking them by name whenever possible.
    • Ensure excellent customer service from those supervised, fostering a culture of respect and empathy.
    • Communicate effectively with customers, addressing their needs and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Register Operations
    • Process transactions accurately and efficiently, adhering to all cash register procedures and protocols.
    • Balance the register drawer, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Assist with register and computer problems, downloads, upgrades, and fixes as needed, maintaining a high level of technical proficiency.
  • Cash Room Operations
    • In the absence of the Assistant Manager-Operations, verify Cashier-balancing procedures are followed, ensuring compliance with company policies.
    • Verify deposit procedures and policies are followed on a daily basis, maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Assist with preparing deposit, long/short recap, cashier over-short acknowledgements, and sales audits, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
  • Office Operations
    • Provide assistance to the Assistant Manager-Operations in the completion of multiple office duties, including receiving, invoices, purchase orders, inventory adjustments, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Audit
    • Assist the Assistant Manager-Operations in the completion of the quarterly audit checklist, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Observe Cashiers for proper phone etiquette, greeting customers, handling returns correctly, and treating customers attentively, providing feedback and coaching as needed.
  • Front End Appearance and Upkeep
    • Maintain a clean and organized front end, ensuring a positive and welcoming environment for customers.
    • Face and dust front end, keeping impulse counters stocked and faced, and rotating fresh merchandise as seasons change.
    • Ensure fresh ads are stocked in shopping carts at all times, and forms and supplies are stocked and readily available.
    • Assist with decorating the front end according to the Store Support Center program, maintaining a high level of visual appeal and merchandising.
    • Call for cart pickups when necessary, ensuring a smooth and efficient customer experience.
  • Leadership
    • Communicate any merchandising, cost control, or sales ideas to the General Manager for follow-up, providing valuable insights and suggestions.
    • Participate in store and Cashier meetings, contributing to the development of strategies and initiatives.
    • Assist with training and development of new cashiers, ensuring a smooth onboarding process and high level of job knowledge.
    • Work with Assistant Manager-Operations to prepare for advancement, identifying areas for growth and development.
  • Other Essential Requirements

    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, adapting to changing circumstances and priorities.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and customers.
    • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, stand, walk, and climb, with a high level of physical stamina and endurance.
