Job Summary

The VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervisory Healthcare Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Facilities Management Service, you will be responsible for overseeing the planning, design, and construction of healthcare system projects, ensuring compliance with all contractual requirements, healthcare regulations, and codes. You will also provide engineering support to the assigned healthcare system, maintain construction specifications and drawings, and maintain a technical reference library of codes, standards, and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as a resident and program engineer, overseeing the planning, design, and construction of major healthcare system projects.
• Oversee Professional Architecture/Engineering (A/E) and Construction contracts to ensure compliance with all contractual requirements, healthcare regulations, and codes.
• Provide engineering support to the assigned healthcare system, including maintaining construction specifications and drawings, and maintaining a technical reference library of codes, standards, and regulations.
• Serve as a healthcare engineering advisor, engineer consultant, engineer designer, contract administrator, project manager, construction coordinator, and instructor during the design and construction of all project assigned.
• Maintain COR certification to oversee the administration of Facility Engineering Service's Architecture/Engineer and Construction Contracts.
• Support and advance patient care by applying engineering and managing skills to healthcare engineering.

Requirements

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• English Language Proficiency: Healthcare Engineer candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f).
• Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or Architecture from a school with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Engineering Accreditation Commission (excludes engineering technology) or National Council of Architectural Registration Boards curriculum.
• Experience: One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade, with knowledge of mechanical, electrical, structural, civil, and other engineering/architectural principles, practices, and their applications as related to healthcare facilities.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): In addition to meeting the experience requirements for this grade level, the candidate must fully demonstrate the following KSAs: knowledge of mechanical, electrical, structural, civil, and other engineering/architectural principles, practices, and their applications as related to healthcare facilities; knowledge related to the management of overall healthcare system resources; skill in using effective communication in managing interpersonal relationships with internal and external customers, stakeholders, executive leadership, labor representatives, and managers; skill in balancing multiple responsibilities, setting priorities, delegating tasks and projects, meeting multiple deadlines, analyzing complex organizational problems, and developing and implementing effective solutions that result in efficient operations.

Preferred Experience

Supervisory experience 5+ years, knowledge of construction, contracting, and policies involving Facilities Management.
