The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check, including criminal history, child protective services, and driving record verification, and must possess a valid driver's license.

Position Overview - The Social Services Eligibility Specialist is an entry-level role focused on determining eligibility for various government assistance programs under close supervision.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting interviews to assess eligibility for assistance and re-evaluating ongoing eligibility;
  • Explaining the nature of temporary assistance programs and identifying clients' needs;
  • Processing applications for financial assistance and diversion, clarifying client responsibilities and rights;
  • Ensuring data accuracy and completeness, and substantiating information as necessary;
  • Calculating assistance plans and determining allowances for special circumstances;
  • Evaluating social factors such as education, work experience, and social functioning;
  • Assessing client employability and exploring potential income sources.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge: Basic understanding of human behavior, mathematical principles for problem-solving, and interviewing techniques for data collection.

Skills: Proficiency in using personal computers and relevant office software.

Abilities: Strong communication skills, effective interviewing and evaluation capabilities, analytical thinking, and the ability to apply instructions accurately. Must demonstrate sound judgment, discretion, and resourcefulness in problem-solving, maintain confidentiality, and manage tasks efficiently while fostering positive working relationships.

Education and Experience: A high school diploma with additional training and relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that meets the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Minimum Qualifications: Basic knowledge of human behavior, mathematics, and interviewing techniques; proficiency in personal computer operations; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and evaluate situations.

Preferred Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent with additional training and experience in financial assistance programs, familiarity with agency software, and bilingual skills in English and Spanish are advantageous.
