About the Role:
James Madison University, a Division I Member of the NCAA and Sun Belt Conference, is seeking an experienced Athletics Communications Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our communications staff, you will be responsible for assisting with the coverage of 18 Division I sports, with a focus on digital and social media.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with game notes, game programs, website updates, and social media content for assigned sports
- Collaborate with communications and other external relations staff on digital content development related to assigned sports
- Ensure compliance with all relevant institutional, Sun Belt, and NCAA rules
- Develop and implement strategies for content and promotion of an athletics program in the current digital age
Requirements:
- Experience in an intercollegiate or professional sports team's communications office, or student assistant or internship experience
- Good writing and editing ability, with knowledge of AP writing style
- Desktop publishing experience, with knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop
- Knowledge of various web software programs, game operations, and Stat Crew statistical programs
- Highly motivated, energetic, and able to manage a work schedule that includes some weekend work
Working Conditions:
- This is a part-time wage position working up to an average of 29 hours per week over the course of a calendar year
- No benefits are provided

- Professional writing samples are required, including 2-3 relevant writing samples from previous work in athletics
