We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Programming and Artistic Development to join our team at the Los Angeles Philharmonic. This is a unique opportunity to lead the development and implementation of our artistic vision, working closely with our Chief Content Officer and other senior leaders.
Key Responsibilities- Artistic Vision and Strategy: Collaborate with the Chief Content Officer to develop and implement the artistic vision and strategy for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, including advising on conductor, artist, and repertoire selection.
- Programming and Project Management: Serve as lead project manager for assigned portfolio of programming, including orchestral performances and productions at Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl, Symphonies for Youth, and more.
- Artistic Project Development: Manage and produce all elements of complex artistic projects, operas, festivals, and initiatives from inception to performance, including recommending and engaging artists and designers, negotiating contracts, budgeting and tracking spending, scheduling, and overseeing rehearsals and performances.
- Collaboration and Communication: Serve as part of the Association's programming team to design, coordinate, and support cross-genre programming for festivals and projects, and collaborate and communicate artist/programming needs to relevant internal parties.
- Artist and Contract Management: Manage artist performance, commission, and recording contracts in conjunction with Staff Attorney, including issuing contract requests and amending contract riders, and disseminating necessary information to Artist Servicing.
- Marketing and Public Relations: Review and update marketing and PR materials for accuracy, and maintain excellent working relationships with variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Leadership and Representation: Interact with artists and conductors, including entertaining as needed, and share in senior concert duty responsibilities, including nights and weekends as necessary.
- Extensive Knowledge of Classical Music: Possess extensive knowledge of classical music and artists.
- Project Management and Organization: Demonstrate strong skills in project management, organization, information synthesis, and problem-solving.
- Negotiation and Contract Management: Proven negotiation and contract management skills.
- Artistic Quality and Innovation: Ability to identify artistic quality and innovative thinking in project planning.
- Budget Management and Goal Achievement: Ability to manage budgets and meet goals.
- Communication and Collaboration: Strong written and verbal communication skills at management and staff levels, both formally and informally, and ability to develop and sustain professional relationships and collaborate internally and externally for the benefit of the organization.
- Attention to Detail and Multitasking: Strong attention to detail with demonstrable ability to multitask and execute plans effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility and Availability: Flexible schedule, including ability to provide weekend and evening concert coverage as needed, in addition to business day responsibilities.
- Computer Proficiency: Professional manager-level desktop computing proficiency.
- Reliability and Attendance: Regular and reliable attendance.
