Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Human Resources Generalist to join our team at American Campus Communities. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing professional-level HR support in various functional areas, including employee relations, benefits administration, performance management, and more.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as an employee relations specialist, handling employee complaints, harassment and discrimination allegations, and civil rights complaints.
  • Facilitate and monitor employee leave, including FMLA, disability, and ADA, and oversee the return-to-work process.
  • Maintain and process unemployment notices and potential charges in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Administer various human resources plans and procedures for company personnel and assist in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures.
  • Report, maintain, and monitor all workers' compensation case files and follow up on open cases.
Essential Duties
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.
  • Accurately maintain Human Resources Information System records and compile reports from the database as requested.
  • Participate in developing departmental goals, objectives, and systems as requested.
  • Review and provide suggested updates for job descriptions as necessary.
  • Conduct General Manager training at the corporate office and supplemental HR-based training as needed.
  • Assist in the analysis of reports, providing input regarding decisions that result in the department achieving established goals.
  • Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to continually improve departmental efficiency and internal customer service.
  • Perform benefits administration, including claims resolution and communicating benefit information to employees.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university plus a minimum of 1-3 years of Human Resources Generalist experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • SHRM CP/SCP and/or HRCI PHR/SPHR certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of employment law, including FMLA, ADA, Workers' Compensation, and Title VII.
  • ADP and/or other HRIS experience required.
