Position Summary

We are in search of a skilled and visionary Director to spearhead our Agile Project Management Office (PMO). The Director, Agile PMO will play a pivotal role in establishing a contemporary and efficient framework that integrates personnel, processes, and tools to guarantee timely project delivery, adherence to scope, and alignment with strategic goals. This position requires close collaboration with product delivery teams to facilitate rapid project execution while implementing a robust IT governance framework for effective decision-making and project oversight. The ideal candidate will possess a strategic mindset, a profound understanding of agile methodologies, and the capability to cultivate a culture of continuous enhancement.

Key Responsibilities

APMO Development and Enhancement:

  • Drive consensus among APMO stakeholders and organizational leaders regarding the mission and vision of the APMO, promoting an agile mindset while developing product and project-oriented capabilities focused on value delivery.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and business partners to define APMO objectives and operational frameworks through the creation of an APMO charter or mission statement.
  • Lead the identification and recruitment of APMO roles and team configurations to achieve established APMO goals and objectives.

Methodological Expertise:

  • Establish and implement project management processes, methodologies, tools, guidelines, and standards to create a stable framework that supports all project teams and stakeholders, enhancing the likelihood of successful project outcomes.
  • Guide the agile practice by developing systems, processes, and workflows that sustain high-performing teams.
  • Facilitate leadership and governance processes for planning and prioritization.
  • Define, manage, and oversee the comprehensive APMO work effort, utilizing best practices to identify, quantify, and monitor the realization of anticipated benefits.
  • Ensure consistency in operational methodologies and related processes across Adtalem Global Education.

Coaching and Collaboration:

  • Provide ongoing coaching and mentorship to APMO staff and leadership as required.
  • Build and sustain relationships with senior leadership and key APMO stakeholders, serving as a trusted advisor.
  • Establish a project management and/or agile community of practice (CoP) to encourage collaboration and sharing of best practices among APMO practitioners.
  • Foster a culture of learning to continuously assess and refine methodologies and efficiencies.
  • Support goal coaches and KPI leaders to ensure alignment with organizational values.
  • Ensure alignment with cross-departmental roadmaps, creating a unified plan to manage dependencies.

Continuous Enhancement:

  • Regularly assess and identify opportunities to refine project management best practices, aiming for higher maturity in project portfolio management (PPM).
  • Continuously evolve and enhance the interdependencies between business models and operational practices, integrating various delivery models into a cohesive strategy that meets changing business needs.
  • Engage the organization to gather continuous feedback and identify emerging needs for methodology and alignment.

Performance Management:

  • Evaluate enterprise or portfolio performance using metrics and reporting to support the organization's transition towards a value-based operational model.
  • Ensure strategic alignment through prioritization, resource capacity management, key result tracking, and program management to fulfill the strategic vision.
  • Manage and optimize the flow of value throughout the organization.
  • Monitor and communicate key organizational metrics.
  • Identify and address organizational impediments, escalating as necessary.

Vendor and Partner Oversight:

  • Oversee vendor selection, contract negotiations, and performance management to ensure quality and timely project delivery.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with vendors and partners to facilitate project success.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned and adhere to all policies and standards.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Information Technology, Project Management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 7-10 years of project management experience, with a minimum of 5 years in an agile environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing an Agile PMO within a large, complex organization.
  • Strong understanding of agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, Lean) and tools (JIRA, Confluence, etc.).
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to drive organizational change.
  • Experience in vendor management, including contract negotiation and performance oversight.
  • PMP, PMI-ACP, CSM, or similar certifications are highly desirable.
