About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Public Matters Editor to lead our editorial efforts in promoting democracy and civic engagement. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive editorial strategy that showcases our commitment to fair, accurate, and contextualized reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a strategic editorial plan that aligns with our mission and values
  • Lead a team of editors and reporters in producing high-quality content that engages audiences and promotes civic participation
  • Collaborate with our news director, managing editor, and digital editor to ensure seamless integration of editorial efforts across all platforms
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including community leaders, policymakers, and other influencers
  • Stay up-to-date on current events and trends in democracy and civic engagement, and adapt our editorial strategy accordingly
Requirements
  • 4+ years of experience in a senior editorial role, preferably in a public media organization
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful editorial strategies that drive engagement and promote civic participation
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team of editors and reporters
  • Strong knowledge of journalistic and ethical standards, with a commitment to fairness, accuracy, and context
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, with multiple deadlines and priorities
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in a senior editorial role, preferably in a public media organization
  • Experience working in a public media organization, with a strong understanding of our mission and values
  • Fluency in Spanish, with the ability to work effectively with bilingual staff and community members
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines
