The Domestic Logistics Supervisor will oversee and facilitate the transportation processes for our domestic clientele. This role is crucial in managing and coordinating operational activities while ensuring compliance with company policies and shipping regulations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identify necessary transportation routes; negotiate rates and services to support logistics needs.
- Engage in performance assessments of domestic logistics providers.
- Maintain awareness of logistics market trends and effectively communicate insights to the organization.
- Evaluate the financial implications of proposed shipping routes and modes to identify the most cost-effective transportation solutions.
- Develop and manage Logistics Operating Budgets, ensuring adherence to financial plans.
- Assist in the daily operations of the Domestic Booking Coordinator.
- Establish and implement operational procedures that reflect best practices.
- Ensure effective management of domestic suppliers, holding them accountable through performance metrics and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Supervise transactional operations within the forwarding sector, including capacity booking, pickup arrangements, and shipment tracking.
- Ensure compliance with necessary domestic documentation in accordance with regulations and internal protocols.
- Communicate shipment statuses with Customer Service throughout the transportation process.
- Identify and resolve incidents, implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Support Customer Service in managing incidents and exceptions.
- Continuously monitor supplier performance and develop improvement plans when necessary.
- Recognize training needs and opportunities to cultivate a highly skilled logistics team.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
- Strong analytical capabilities.
- Familiarity with Incoterms and shipping conditions.
- Proven ability to develop, coach, and mentor staff effectively.
- Clear verbal communication skills.
- Ability to understand diverse accents.
- Expertise in transportation management.
- Proficient in typing and filing.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Basic understanding of regulations governing the shipping of chemicals.
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on customer service and follow-up.
- Ability to interact effectively with employees and customers at all levels.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, or Supply Chain Management is advantageous.
- Familiarity with SAP systems.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of shipping terminology.
- Effective telephone communication skills.
- Completion of appropriate D.O.T. Awareness and Shipping Paper training is required.
