Job Summary

As a key member of the Sonesta International Hotels team, the Assistant Director of Finance will play a vital role in overseeing all financial functions related to accounting and internal control over financial reporting, assets, and liabilities of the Hotel. This position will be responsible for performing oversight, control, and audit tasks surrounding the Hotel's accounts receivable, balance sheet reconciliation, accounts payable, payroll, and income audit functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide management with accurate and timely monthly financial statements and complete comprehensive and detailed workpapers supporting same.
  • Assist the Director of Finance in preparing budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Assist in the innovation of new local policies and procedures to improve current financial and accounting systems.
  • Provide direction, training, and supervision to staff performing financial and accounting functions.
  • Assume responsibilities of the Director of Finance and the Payroll Department in periods of absence of the Director of Finance.
Requirements
  • Properly train, guide, and lead staff to provide accurate and timely financial information.
  • Provide management services and work on special projects as assigned by the Director of Finance.
  • Oversee daily administration of financial transactions to ensure that the Hotel's revenues and expenses are recorded as required by GAAP and the Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry (USALI).
  • Understand duties of your staff and provide cross-training within the Hotel departments as needed.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, supervise, train, and develop staff in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures and applicable state and local laws.
  • Schedule, control, promote, and discipline your staff according to the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Lead and attend departmental meetings.
  • Make sure management and guests receive accurate and timely accounts receivable reports and invoices.
  • See that all travel agents, refunds, and cancelled advance deposits are paid quickly and accurately.
  • Ensure all vendors are paid correctly, timely, and with proper authorization and account distribution.
  • Oversee computer operations to maintain an even flow of work and that equipment is maintained properly.
  • Exert control over Profit and Loss statement accounts and protect company assets.
  • Ensure timely and accurate collection of Accounts Receivable.
  • Assist in the completion of timely and accurate annual budget and periodic forecasts.
  • Work with hotel accounting staff to prepare accurate and timely month-end and year-end financial reports.
  • Work with division leaders to provide comprehensive management of Hotel operations.
  • Ensure accurate personnel and payroll records are kept.
  • Determine that all recurring journal entries are prepared correctly.
  • Determine that all tax reports are prepared on time.
  • Reconcile all bank accounts.
  • Ensure all monthly close tasks and ongoing SOX 404 Key Controls conform to Sonesta policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the counting and control over cash on hand.
  • Assist with the ongoing administration of credit card inquiries, disputes, and chargebacks.
  • Perform additional duties and projects assigned by the Director of Finance.

Pay Range

$80,000-$95,000 Annually
