**Transportation Engineer In Training - Transportation Market**

This role is part of our transportation team, which focuses on improving community connectivity through solutions that support the safe and efficient movement of goods, services, and people.

**Responsibilities:**

Assist in designing roadway projects, including coordination with traffic, bridge design, transportation planning, and environmental considerations.

Participate in the development of engineering plans, reports, and specifications for major and minor projects.

Prepare and review preliminary, right-of-way, and final plans and technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates, and make recommendations for additions, deletions, and substitutions when modifications are necessary.

Communicate and interact with project team members, client representatives, review agencies, and others as appropriate to the project.

Assist in resolving complex problems, such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements.

Knowledge of standard professional practices and procedures.

Ability to learn Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) standards, policies, and procedures.

Ability to learn standard operations, policies, and procedures of the firm.

Ability to develop advanced knowledge of the practical application of engineering principles, practices, and techniques, including AASHTO guidelines.

Skill in Microstation V8i, GEOPAK, and OpenRoads desired but not required. Skill in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.

Ability to demonstrate strong attention to detail and the desire to learn.

Ability to demonstrate strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.

Ability to build and maintain excellent interpersonal relationships. Ability to work independently on multiple tasks without immediate and constant supervision.

**Minimum Qualifications:**

Bachelor's degree in Civil/Transportation Engineering is required.

0-1 years of traffic/roadway design experience. Prior internship experience in design or construction is a plus.

E.I. certification required or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment.

Advanced knowledge of the practical application of engineering principles, practices, and techniques, including AASHTO guidelines.

Expertise in Microstation V8i, Inroads, Open Roads Designer, and Microsoft Office applications, (particularly Word and Excel) preferred.
