Key Responsibilities:- Prepare, e-file, and serve correspondence, briefs, motions, pleadings, discovery, deposition notices, and other documents required by the California county superior court and sometimes federal court systems.
- Conduct scheduling and keep attorney calendars current based on court notifications and depositions.
- Assist attorneys in preparation for trial.
- Review incoming mail daily.
- Maintain electronic legal files.
- Assist attorneys with review of invoices and requests for payment and checks.
- Handle interactions with clients, opposing counsel, attorneys, teammates, claim partners, and court employees in a professional manner.
- Assist in overall support of the office as needed, including case matching, document production, CD duplication, PDF creation, file conversion, etc.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Senior Legal Assistant.
- Experience in paperless insurance defense law offices or corporate departments preferred.
- Construction defect and subrogation experience is strongly preferred.
- Tort experience in personal injury work is preferred.
- Trial preparation experience is a plus.
- Strong working knowledge of California Court systems and resourcefulness in looking up court rules.
- Strong multi-tasking, organizational, and time management skills.
- Proficiency with case management software.
- Strong familiarity with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, OneNote, Teams, & PowerPoint).
- Ability to meet productivity targets in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills, especially regarding prioritizing work activities for multiple attorneys.
- Must be able to manipulate electronic documents such as TIF, PDF, and JPG formats.
This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT, San Antonio, TX, Lake Mary, FL, Phoenix, AZ, Naperville, IL) will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.
Compensation:The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency, and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is: $54,160 - $81,240
