Key Responsibilities:

Manage the full fleet of primary and secondary equipment, focusing on achieving market base profitability through effective management of all fleet and maintenance activities within the assigned area, including cost control, management development, and high training and safety standards.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure safe and reliable vehicles, (heavy trucks and heavy equipment), are available to meet operational requirements. Conduct fleet evaluations to ensure maintenance standards are met.
  • Manage maintenance managers to ensure performance and cost focus across the area.
  • Review capital equipment requisitions in line with Corporate guidelines and objectives.
  • Manage effective utilization of vehicle assets.
  • Ensure maintenance shops are adequately staffed and mechanics are properly trained.
  • Ensure vehicle management systems are effectively utilized.
  • Comply with and ensure adherence to WM's Mission to Zero standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.
  • Meet all financial review dates and corporate directed programs in a timely fashion.
  • Assist in budget process as required.
  • Assist in creating a positive team-oriented environment through employee development and motivation.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the maintenance shops through regular inspections and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Oversee personnel needs of the department including selecting, coaching, and training staff and maintenance managers, and evaluating employee performance. Provide input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
  • Motivate, coach, counsel, and discipline managers according to WM's policies and procedures and ensure that maintenance managers are in compliance with the standards in their administration of counseling and disciplinary steps.
  • Provide training and presentations as needed in a positive and professional manner.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of supervisory employees.


This includes:

Direct supervision of, approximately, 20 full-time employees, including: Supervisors, Mechanics / Technicians, Parts Clerks, Operations Specialist, Admin Support


Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree (accredited) or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and 4 years of relevant work experience.

5 years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement).

Valid driver's license required.


Work Environment:

Normal setting for this job is: office setting.
