Position Summary
The Volunteer Program Manager is responsible for overseeing volunteer activities.

This role includes recruiting, hiring, training, and retaining volunteers; planning and assigning volunteer tasks; evaluating performance; recognizing and addressing issues; and resolving conflicts.

The Volunteer Program Manager ensures effective volunteer operations while adhering to relevant state and federal regulations.

This position involves coordinating volunteer services to meet the needs of patients and families, as well as overseeing the development and execution of care plans.

This role also requires upholding the Code of Ethical Conduct and fostering positive relationships within the organization, across departments, and with external stakeholders.

Position Specific Responsibilities

Actively participates in the interdisciplinary team (IDT) to develop and implement care plans.

Encourages the use of volunteers to enhance patient care.

Effectively recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and retains volunteers to meet both administrative and patient care needs.

Adheres to established human resource policies during recruitment and selection.

Ensures all prospective volunteers undergo interviews and complete necessary background and health screenings prior to being offered a volunteer position.

Conducts initial and ongoing competency evaluations to assess training and support requirements.

Maintains comprehensive records of recruitment and retention efforts.

Tracks volunteer utilization as a percentage of overall patient care hours, in compliance with regulations.

Communicates patient and family needs effectively to the IDT.

Provides education regarding volunteer services and the role of volunteers to IDT members.

Prepares reports, in-services, and documentation to illustrate the value and effectiveness of the volunteer program as needed.

Utilizes various communication methods to engage and retain active volunteers, including newsletters, email campaigns, and events.

Delivers high-quality training for new volunteers and conducts at least four in-services annually for active volunteers.

Manages volunteer services with a focus on volunteer utilization, documentation, and involvement in care plans.

Assigns patient care and administrative volunteers, ensuring oversight of activities and documentation requirements.

Develops and executes public service announcements promoting hospice volunteerism.

Serves as a patient care volunteer when necessary to support care plan interventions.

Operates within established budgetary guidelines and manages volunteer program expenses.

Performs additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

A high school diploma or GED is required.

An associate's degree (AS or BS) is preferred.

Experience in Social Services, Human Services, Resource Management, or a related field is preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is desired.

Prior experience managing volunteer services or working in a nonprofit organization is advantageous.

Skills

Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations and compute rates, ratios, and percentages.

Language Skills: Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting business documents, professional journals, and regulations. Capable of writing reports and business correspondence. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Other Skills and Abilities: Must be able to understand, read, write, and speak English. Must embrace and articulate the hospice philosophy. Ability to effectively delegate and monitor multiple activities simultaneously.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This role requires the ability to perform essential functions effectively. Accommodations can be made for team members with disabilities.

Regular standing, walking, and manual dexterity are essential, along with the ability to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds.

Visual acuity requirements include close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
