Position Summary
The Volunteer Services Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the activities of volunteers within the organization.
This role includes the recruitment, training, and retention of volunteers, as well as managing their assignments and performance evaluations. The Supervisor will ensure that volunteer operations comply with relevant regulations and support the needs of patients and families effectively.
Key responsibilities include modeling the core values of FC Compassus LLC, which are Compassion, Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, and Innovation, while promoting the organizational philosophy based on the 6 Pillars of Success.
The Supervisor will also uphold the Code of Ethical Conduct and foster positive relationships within the organization and with external stakeholders.
Position Specific Responsibilities
- Actively participate in the interdisciplinary team (IDT) to develop and implement care plans.
- Advocate for the integration of volunteers in patient care services.
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise volunteers to meet the administrative and patient care needs of the organization.
- Follow established human resource policies during recruitment and selection.- Ensure all prospective volunteers undergo necessary background checks and health screenings prior to placement.
- Conduct initial and ongoing competency assessments to identify training needs.- Maintain comprehensive records of recruitment and retention efforts.
- Track volunteer utilization as a percentage of overall patient care hours as required by regulations.
- Communicate effectively with the IDT regarding patient and family needs.
- Provide education about volunteer roles and services to IDT members.- Prepare reports and documentation to showcase the impact and effectiveness of the volunteer program as needed.- Utilize various communication methods to engage and retain active volunteers, including newsletters, email campaigns, and events.
- Deliver high-quality training for new volunteers and conduct at least four in-services annually for current volunteers.
- Manage volunteer services with a focus on utilization, documentation, and involvement in care plans.
- Assign tasks to patient care and administrative volunteers, ensuring oversight of activities and documentation.
- Develop public service announcements to promote hospice volunteerism.
- Step in as a patient care volunteer when necessary to support care interventions.
- Operate within budgetary constraints and manage expenses related to the volunteer program.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate's degree (AS or BS) preferred.
- Experience in Social Services, Human Services, Resource Management, or a related field is preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is desired.
- Previous experience managing volunteer services or working in a non-profit organization is advantageous.Skills
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations and calculate rates, ratios, and percentages.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret business documents, professional journals, and regulations. Proficient in writing reports and business correspondence. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English fluently. Embraces the philosophy of hospice care. Capable of effectively delegating and monitoring multiple activities simultaneously.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This role requires the ability to perform essential functions effectively. Accommodations can be made for team members with disabilities.
Regular standing, walking, and manual dexterity are essential, along with the ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
Visual acuity requirements include the ability to see close and distant objects, perceive colors and depth, and adjust focus as needed.
