Position Summary
The Volunteer Services Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the activities of volunteers within the organization.
This role includes the recruitment, selection, training, and retention of volunteers, as well as planning and directing their tasks. The Supervisor will evaluate volunteer performance, implement rewards and disciplinary measures, and address any issues that arise.
The Volunteer Services Supervisor ensures that volunteer operations align with both state and federal regulations.Additionally, this position coordinates the needs of patients and families regarding volunteer services and oversees the creation and execution of care plans to address those needs.
The Supervisor is expected to embody the values of FC Compassus LLC, including Compassion, Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, and Innovation, while promoting the company’s philosophy through the 6 Pillars of Success.
Upholding the Code of Ethical Conduct and fostering positive relationships within the organization and with external stakeholders is essential.
Position Specific ResponsibilitiesActively participates in the interdisciplinary team (IDT) to develop and implement care plans.
Encourages the utilization of volunteers to enhance patient care.
Responsible for the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and retention of volunteers to meet the administrative and patient care needs of the organization.
Adheres to established human resource policies during recruitment and selection.
Ensures that potential volunteers undergo interviews and complete all required background and health screenings prior to being offered a volunteer position.
Conducts initial and ongoing competency assessments to identify training and support needs.
Maintains comprehensive records of all recruitment and retention efforts.
Tracks volunteer utilization as a percentage of overall patient care hours in compliance with regulations.
Effectively communicates patient and family requirements to the IDT.
Provides education regarding volunteer services and the role of volunteers to IDT members.
Prepares reports, in-services, and other documentation to illustrate the value and effectiveness of the volunteer program as needed.
Utilizes various methods to engage and retain active volunteers, including newsletters, email communications, events, and meetings.
Delivers high-quality training for new volunteers and conducts at least four in-services annually for current volunteers.
Manages volunteer services with a focus on volunteer utilization, documentation, and involvement in care plans.
Assigns tasks to patient care and administrative volunteers, overseeing their activities and documentation requirements.
Develops and executes public service announcements promoting hospice volunteerism.
May perform the duties of a patient care volunteer as necessary to support care interventions.
Operates within budgetary constraints and manages expenses related to the volunteer program.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Education and ExperienceA high school diploma or GED is required.
An associate degree (AS or BS) is preferred.
Experience in Social Services, Human Services, Resource Management, or a related field is preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is desired.
Prior experience managing volunteer services or working in a non-profit organization is advantageous.
SkillsMathematical Skills: Proficient in basic arithmetic operations and the ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
Language Skills: Capable of reading, analyzing, and interpreting business publications, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Proficient in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Able to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from leadership, team members, and external parties. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English. Embraces and articulates the philosophy of hospice care. Capable of effectively delegating and monitoring multiple activities simultaneously.
Physical Demands and Work EnvironmentThis role requires the ability to perform essential functions effectively. Accommodations can be made for team members with disabilities.
Regular standing, walking, and manual dexterity are necessary, along with the ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
Visual acuity requirements include close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
