Maintains and reports financial information, ensuring accuracy and compliance with departmental and county policies. Monitors and balances funds, budgets, and accounts, performing accounting and audit procedures as needed. Communicates internal controls and resolves accounting problems effectively.
Key Responsibilities- Maintains and prepares timely, accurate financial reports and expenditures reports for Johnson County and the Sheriff's Office.
- Monitors and balances funds, budgets, and accounts, identifying and resolving potential discrepancies.
- Assists the department with accounting procedures and compliance issues, ensuring adherence to regulations and policies.
- Reviews contracts for compliance, ensuring that all financial obligations are met.
- Approves check requests and requisitions, ensuring that all financial transactions are accurate and authorized.
- Accumulates requested documents and information for outside auditors, facilitating a smooth audit process.
- Performs all other related duties involved in the operation of the department, as assigned or required.
- Bachelor's degree in business required, accounting degree preferred.
- Current and valid driver's license required.
- Ability to collect and analyze financial data, drawing logical conclusions and recognizing risks.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Proficient use of spreadsheets and word processing software.
- Grant experience preferred.
The incumbent will work in a fast-paced office environment, interacting with department heads, staff, and external agencies. The position requires regular attendance, punctuality, and the ability to work well with others.
Decision MakingThis position makes decisions based on statutes, general accepted accounting principles, and department/county policies and procedures.
Background ChecksJohnson County will conduct background checks on new hires, including a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudications in the past seven years, and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records, and educational attainment.
