29 hours per week (Monday-Friday during school sessions)
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Paraprofessionals provide essential support under the guidance of special education instructors or classroom educators. Their primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and educational engagement of students across various activities and environments. Confidentiality regarding student information and records is paramount.
REPORTS TO:
The Paraprofessional will report directly to the school administrator or their designated representative.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of 48 credit hours or successful passage of the ParaPro assessment (candidates may begin without certification at a reduced pay rate until certification is obtained).
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties may vary by classroom, but typical responsibilities include:
- Assisting with student arrivals and departures, including support for bus drivers and students with adaptive needs.
- Accompanying students in various school and community settings, ensuring safe transitions between locations.
- Supporting students with personal hygiene and daily living activities, adhering to universal precautions.
- Collaborating with teachers to conduct functional assessments to evaluate students' performance levels.
- Engaging with individual and small groups of students using age-appropriate curriculum activities.
- Tutoring students based on instructional goals set by teachers and other educational professionals.
- Facilitating the physical participation of students in activities, following guidance from educational and therapeutic staff.
- Implementing behavior management strategies in alignment with the teacher's approach.
- Assisting with supplementary tasks for students and overseeing independent study sessions.
- Conducting standardized reading and math programs as prescribed.
- Supporting teachers with crisis management and disciplinary actions.
- Supervising students during lunch, recess, and study hall periods.
- Operating and assisting with educational technology and equipment.
- Preparing classroom materials and maintaining supplies and learning environments.
- Documenting observations regarding student performance and behavior.
- Maintaining attendance and other essential records as required.
- Participating in staff or IEP meetings as requested by educational personnel.
- Engaging in self-directed study to enhance understanding of classroom practices and procedures.
- Performing general duties as assigned by the classroom teacher.
