Job Overview

Salary:
The Mental Health Association of Monmouth County is seeking a dedicated and skilled Family Support Specialist for its Intensive Family Support Services (IFSS) program. Reporting directly to the IFSS Manager, the Family Support Specialist will be instrumental in providing ongoing consultation sessions to families of adults aged 18 and older who are facing serious mental health challenges. The primary objective is to foster positive transformations, enhance stability and quality of life, and uphold the empowerment and fundamental rights of families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct ongoing consultation sessions with families of adults 18+ experiencing serious mental health issues to promote change, improve stability, and enhance the quality of life while ensuring family empowerment and rights.
  • Assist families in developing coping mechanisms, stress management strategies, problem-solving skills, and effective communication techniques.
  • Address interpersonal relationships and challenges within the social context.
  • Focus on issues of grief and loss throughout the life cycle.
  • Facilitate support groups for families.
  • Provide psychoeducation on current information regarding the characteristics of major mental illnesses, including bio-neurological factors, the effects of substance use, psychotropic medications, and the risks associated with combining various mood-altering substances.
  • Design and deliver psychoeducational workshops and presentations on evidence-based treatment methodologies.
  • Offer crisis intervention and develop safety plans.
  • Ensure timely completion of all required documentation in family files/EHR in accordance with policy.
  • Follow appropriate termination processes to effectively meet the needs of the family.
  • Assist families in accessing available community resources to address their needs.
  • Deliver services in a manner that accommodates the individual preferences and needs of family members, with options for in-home and off-site services.
  • Participate in peer supervision meetings and other relevant meetings as requested.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or a bachelor's degree (preferred) in behavioral health or nursing.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in the mental health field.
