POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Castellani Art Museum (CAM) is seeking a dedicated Visitor Services Lead to manage visitor engagement and front desk operations during public hours and special events.

The Visitor Services Lead will exemplify outstanding visitor service, ensuring that guests receive a warm welcome and the information necessary for an enriching experience. This role involves collaborating with volunteers, work-study students, and interns, providing essential guidance and support. The Lead will balance the responsibilities of being a friendly host and a knowledgeable museum representative while also safeguarding the facilities and collections. Additionally, this position entails overseeing the security of the collections and the building during weekends and off-hour events, as well as managing purchases and donations from visitors.

The CAM operates from Thursday to Sunday, with plans to extend hours in the future. The front-of-house schedule includes weekends, select weekdays, and occasional special events after hours, with a total of 8-20 hours per week, translating to approximately 24-44 hours monthly.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure the efficient operation of the museum, including the security of collections and the building during weekends and off-hour events;
  • Monitor visitor numbers and key information, utilizing security cameras for guest oversight;
  • Open and close the museum on assigned days and evenings for special events as directed;
  • Participate in team meetings, providing updates on events, security, and visitor service highlights;
  • Implement safety and security protocols for the museum, including emergency procedures and alerts to campus safety and management in case of incidents;
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information related to collections and personal data;
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to working with diverse community groups;
  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours regularly;
  • Familiarity with museum security policies and procedures;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for assisting guests and collaborating with staff;
  • Proficiency in operating computers, handling cash transactions, and utilizing office equipment;
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to respond effectively in emergencies;
  • Capability to draft reports and communicate with campus officials during emergencies;
  • Manual dexterity to operate various office machines.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma is mandatory.
  • Experience in visitor services or a related field is preferred.
  • Background in art or history museums and/or campus security is advantageous.
