Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Vocational Nurse to join our team at Christus Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide high-quality patient care and work collaboratively with our providers to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide professional nursing care to patients, including administering treatments and medications as prescribed.
  • Assist with the preparation of equipment and aid providers during treatment, examination, and testing of patients.
  • Observe, record, and report patients' condition and reaction to drugs or treatments to providers.
  • Oversee appointment bookings and ensure timely flow of patients.
  • Greets patients and obtains well-documented history and vitals, prepares patients for physical exam, and instructs patients in collection of samples and tests.
  • Perform various tasks, including obtaining/record vital signs, performing initial assessment on patient, coordinating patient transfer to hospital and/or discharge, giving telephone orders, accepting telephone test results, performing telephone triage, calling in provider-approved prescription refills, specimen collection, and more.
  • May perform additional tasks, such as blood collection by lancet, pulse oximetry, incentive spirometry, suture and/or staple removal, ear irrigation, administering breathing treatment, giving allergy/insulin/immunization medications, and more, after obtaining appropriate training.
  • May administer IV push medications and/or add medications to IV only after completion of special training and under direct supervision of licensed practitioner.
  • Make arrangements for patient testing and admissions.
  • Have a working knowledge of ICD9, CPT, and HCPCS coding and managed care.
  • Respond to incoming telephone calls and, per provider instructions, call in refills and prescriptions to pharmacy.
  • Instruct patients and/or family with regard to medication and treatment, and document the same.
  • Formulate and update patient care plans, order, prepare, and inspect patient charts, post tests and examination results, review patient's tests and examination results with provider, document instructions, and notify patient.
  • Maintain patient files, records, and other information in a professional manner following policies and procedures regarding documentation.
  • Ensure preparation of exam rooms, including re-stocking of treatment areas.
  • Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional licensure and affiliations.
  • Follow CHRISTUS Health guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Use oral and written communication skills to effectively convey ideas in a clear, positive manner that is consistent with the CHRISTUS Mission.
  • Maintain established CHRISTUS Health policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control.
  • Implement job responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with the CHRISTUS Mission and Code of Ethics and supportive of CHRISTUS Health's cultural diversity objectives.
  • Support and adhere to CHRISTUS Health Service Guarantee.
  • Perform other related work as required.
Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited school of practical nursing or vocational nursing.
  • Previous medical office experience preferred.
  • Valid state license to practice nursing.
  • Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
